On the afternoon of November 13, 2024, the Second Chinese Traditional Sports Festival and Campus Baduanjin Gymnastics League at Xinjiang Medical University was officially launched at the Xuelianshan Campus Gymnasium. The event saw the participation of 16 teams from 13 colleges across the university, with a total of 640 studentscompeting.

During the competition, the panel of judges strictly followed the established evaluation criteria, objectively assessing the teams' standardized movements, coordination, and overall performance. After an intense contest, Team 3 from the Clinical Medicine Department and Team 2 from the School of Traditional Chinese Medicine were awarded First Prize, while the Public Health College Team, the General Practice College Team, and Team 1 from the Clinical Medicine Department secured Second Prize. The Pharmacy College Team, the Nursing College Team, and the Stomatology College Team received Third Prize.

During the competition, teams from various colleges wore matching sportswear, exuding energy and focus while performing the movements with precision. In rhythm with the music, they began with a slow, deliberate initiation, executing each sequence smoothly and powerfully. From "Two Hands Supporting the Sky to Regulate the Triple Burner" to "Shaking the Seven Points to Eliminate Illnesses," their motions ranged from expansive arm extensions to concentrated fist-clenching, embodying the fluidity of cloud-and-water movement. Each gesture balanced tension and relaxation, integrating strength with flexibility—masterfully illustrating the core principles of Baduanjin: "harmonizing movement and stillness, stretching tendons and strengthening bones, uniting form and spirit, and nurturing qi within."
The students not only showcased the unique charm of Qigong but also demonstrated exceptional physical fitness and an uplifting, energetic spirit.

As one of China's traditional health exercises, Baduanjin has a long history of promoting both physical and mental well-being through its distinctive movements. The successful organization of this year’s "Gymnastics Qigong: Baduanjin" Campus League not only enriched students' extracurricular activities but also significantly contributed to the development of campus sports culture.
This competition effectively sparked both faculty and students' interest in and understanding of traditional Chinese health practices. It played a crucial role in preserving and promoting China's rich sports culture, particularly by integrating Baduanjin's philosophical foundations in Taoism and traditional Chinese medicine. Looking ahead, our university will continue to organize diverse sports initiatives to encourage broader student participation in physical activities, fostering a healthy, energetic, and spiritually enriching campus environment.
